Following Jesus Is Still Worth It When Others Don’t Understand You

Your commitment to Jesus will not always be understood or respected by everyone around you. There may be times when living according to your faith brings criticism, rejection, ridicule, or even false accusations from people who disagree with what you believe. Jesus never promised that following Him would guarantee everyone’s approval; instead, He reminded His followers that opposition for His sake does not mean they have lost God’s favor. When people misunderstand your devotion to Christ, resist the pressure to compromise what you believe simply to make yourself more acceptable to them. As you deepen your personal relationship with God, allow His approval to matter more than the opinions of those who criticize your decision to follow Jesus. You do not have to retaliate, prove yourself, or allow hurtful words to determine how you see yourself. Continue representing Jesus with both conviction and love, trusting that He sees the cost of remaining faithful when doing so is difficult. Being rejected because you follow Jesus does not mean you are outside of God’s blessing; your faithfulness to Christ still matters, even when others do not understand it.

“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you

and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.”

Matthew 5:11 NLT
