When You Pray in Jesus’ Name, Let His Purpose Lead Your Request

Prayer gives you the privilege of bringing your requests to God with confidence in who Jesus is and what He has made possible for you. Asking in His name is more than adding the name of Jesus to the end of a prayer; it reflects a heart that desires for its requests to agree with His character, purposes, and will. Jesus invites you to ask boldly while remembering that the ultimate purpose of answered prayer reaches beyond receiving what you desire—it is that God would be glorified through Him. As you deepen your personal relationship with God, allow your prayers to become increasingly shaped by what honors Him. Bring Him what you need, what you desire, and what concerns you, while remaining willing for His wisdom to guide your requests and His will to determine the outcome. Prayer is not about convincing God to follow your plans; it is an opportunity to trust Him enough to surrender your plans to His greater purpose. Ask in the name of Jesus with faith, and let the deepest desire of your prayer be that God receives the glory.

And I will do whatever you ask in my name,

so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 14:13 NIV
