Your Words Can Leave Someone Stronger Than You Found Them

Every conversation gives you an opportunity to use your words in a way that brings something good into another person’s life. What you say has the ability to encourage someone who feels discouraged, offer wisdom when it is needed, or give strength to someone who may be carrying more than you realize. This does not mean avoiding difficult conversations or saying only what people want to hear; it means choosing words that are truthful, helpful, and appropriate for the moment rather than words that unnecessarily wound or tear down. Jesus demonstrated how words can carry both truth and grace, speaking in ways that corrected, instructed, comforted, and called people toward something better. As you deepen your personal relationship with God, become more intentional about what leaves your mouth, especially when you are frustrated, disappointed, or tempted to respond quickly. Ask yourself whether your words will help the person receiving them or simply release what you are feeling in the moment. Your words have the ability to leave something valuable behind—use them to strengthen, encourage, and do good in the lives of those who hear you.

When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need—words that will help others become stronger. Then what you say will do good to those who listen to you.

Ephesians 4:29 NCV
